PIPPIN (2020)

Pippin plays with the idea of having a show within a show as it follows the fictional journey of a young prince and his quest for meaning in life, despite the evil forces that attempt to corrupt him. Although this show takes place under a big top, rather than creating a bright and cheerful aesthetic, I wanted to create an eerie, melancholy circus, reminiscent of an alluring spectacle. By sketching a unique design for each of the 33 characters onstage, my makeup designs catered to the needs of the design team, who decided on creating a hodgepodge of concepts that were loosely based in the 1920s.
